After learning about myths for the last few weeks it's interesting to think that anything from our modern day could and potentially will become a myth for future generations. It seems like such a far fetched idea since the myths of the past seem so different from the world we live in and yet it is easy enough to spot such stories, places and people. One person I believe will become a myth in due time, if he is not already becoming such, is Michael Jordan. He is already constantly called a legend, an all time great in basketball. He is the standard of greatness to which everyone is compared. He is remembered for his clutch shots and many championships. He changed the game of basketball forever. In the present he is a master of the sport but for many of us we have seen him play and we remember him in the live games. In future generations they will watch videos but it is the talk of his greatness that will make him a myth. He will be a player who no one can rival and who changed the face of a sport. His legend will be talked about forever and his game will be forever imitated. He is already the hero of so many young athletes but I believe once this generation is gone and maybe even the next he is going to be a name that people still talk about. After a while the game will evolve and change and at that point people will look back and remember the days when Michael Jordan dominated the game.
I think it is definitely interesting that you chose to use a famous athlete. Michael Jordan definitely is a legend in basketball and will be remembered forever. I think he can be considered a a myth and a hero (which he already is to many) in years to come.
ReplyDeleteMichael Jordan will definitely be a legendary athlete that touched the lives of people from our generation! I still remember his presence in Space Jam. It was an amazing movie for kids.
ReplyDeleteI was definitely having difficulties thinking of athletes that could potentially become myths in due time but I think that Michael Jordan is a great example. His name is synonymous with greatness and he set the bar in basketball that every other athlete in the sport wants to measure up to. Great points.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a basketball fan, but I definitely agree that Michael Jordan could become a myth in due time. He is arguably the most well-known basketball player and redefined the game for all players that came after him. Like Wayne Gretzky in hockey and Tom Brady in football (let's go Broncos!!), Michael Jordan is well-known to those unfamiliar with the sport - another testament to his greatness.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about sports or players and even I've heard of Michael Jordan! So he definitely seems like a good pick for a possible legend/myth. I think of him from Space Jam...maybe he's not in that?
ReplyDeleteI don't follow basketball but even if you don't, it's not likely that you've never heard the name of Michael Jordan. He is indeed a legend in the sport so I think it is possible for him to be a myth for future generations.
